Why Concern Ourselves With Gut Toxicity?
Gut Pain and Gut Toxicity Gut Pain is a sign of an unhealthy
bowel and can arise from conditions such as indigestion,
constipation, gas pain, diarrhoea and cramping. Eventually more
serious conditions may result such as diverticulitis and irriitable
bowel syndrome.
A good functioning bowel is vital to your
health.
The reason we pay so much attention to gut toxicity is
that so many chronic diseases can be traced back to gut and
digestive problems before the actual onset of the chronic disease.
Some of the diseases where gut-derived microbial toxins have been
implicated include either short term or long term ones:
Short term: Allergies; Constipation; Diarrhea; Fatigue;
Fever; Gut ache; Headache; Indigestion;
Muscle aches and pains; Nausea; Poor Memory; Premenstrual
Tension (PMT) Vomiting
Long term: Asthma; BoneLoss; Arthritis; Chronic Fatigue
Syndrome; Dementia (Alzheimer’s); Eczema;
Liver Disease; Pancreatitis; Heart Disease; Impotence and
infertility; Psoriasis; Recurrent Infections; Crohn’s disease;
Ulcerative Colitis; Thyroid Disease; Psoriasis; Lupus
Erythematosus.
In addition to toxic substances produced by microorganisms,
antibodies formed against microbial antigens can “cross-react” with
the body’s own tissues causing “autoimmunity”. The list of
autoimmune diseases which have been linked to cross-reacting
antibodies includes rheumatoid arthritis, myasthenia gravis,
diabetes and autoimmune thyroiditis.
So to give yourself the best chance of not developing these
chronic problems it is sound advice to have your gut toxicity
checked even if you have learnt to accept your digestive problems
as “ just a nuisance” or “ simply normal” or “everybody has them”.
And then even if you are digestive symptom free it is a good idea
to have it checked…. A form of health insurance for the future.
Those of you who have already been diagnosed with these diseases
can also benefit. Treatment to prevent the occurrence of further
gut toxicity may relieve symptoms or stop the disease becoming
worse.
So back to the gut toxicity factor…When gut problems are present
there is bound to be toxins produced by bacteria and even yeast in
the gut. Generally it is the “bad”bacteria which tend to be the
culprits. They tend to feed on sugary foods, undigested food in the
gut and of course accumulated waste products especially in
constipation. The bad smells produced by wind and flatulence can
give you some idea of just what might be happening inside your gut.
These toxins can be absorbed, causing significant disruption of
bodily functions. This is a slow process because you may have the
gut toxicity for quite a number of years before the chronic health
diseases develop, most commonly in “middle age”.
Toxins can also arrive in the gut because of your diet.
This may be because of the overall quality of the diet, over or
under eating in either meat eaters or vegetarians. Toxins also
accumulate with excessive consumption of snack foods, deep fried
foods, food allergies or intolerances, Leaky Gut Syndrome, abnormal
microbial ecology, stress, or prescription and non-prescription
drugs.
To find out the toxic load of your gut simply take the
following test and see which symptoms apply to you:
Abdominal Cramps - Fatigue
Drowsiness after meals - Failing Memory
Diarrhoea - Constant tiredness
Constipation - Candida infections
Halitosis (bad breath) - Mucous in stool
Poor Appetite - Haemorrhoids
Depression or Anxiety - Abdominal bloating
Flatulence
1 to 4 symptoms means your toxic load is at level 1;
4 to 8 symptoms means your toxic load is at level
2;
8 or more symptoms indicates a level 3 toxic
overload.
At Your Wellness Centre we do further GUT TOXICITY TESTS to
determine the level of bacteria in the gut and will advise you on
how to go about reducing it.
