If you just cannot understand why you do not
feel so good or in fact you almost feel “older” the truth is, you
probably are…not chronologically, but perhaps
biologically.
Now, to see if this is the case, Bioelectrical
Impedance Analysis (BIA) is used. This is scientifically validated
equipment which takes an internal snapshot to reveal a person’s
cellular health. It then gauges how quickly or slowly your body is
ageing on the inside.
This information will then reveal your
biological age! For most people this is a BIG
eye-opener.
It doesn’t feel good when your results reveal
that you are biologically older than you should
be!
The good
news is that after discovering what is making your
body old, it is possible to reverse the process, slow ageing and
make yourself younger again.
The BIA (Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis)
allows us to use the body’s natural ageing signs, see how it
compares with that of the average person your age and we are then
able to go to work improving these signs.
The Ageing Signs we all
know:
We all see the obvious wrinkles, stooped
frame, slowing body movements and more forgetful mind as obvious
signs of ageing. Not forgetting the aches and pains and decreasing
eyesight that go with it!
These are what you can see -So, if it
were possible to turn the Ageing Body inside out, what would we
see? Wrinkly insides? fattening arteries?
Thickening joints? thickening blood? starving
cells?
BIA produces information on the body’s internal
conditions which contribute to accelerated ageing. And knowing how
to reverse or slow these down, will obviously slow the Ageing
process.
For most of us these are slow changes
happening in the body, slow changes which we can reverse or slow
down before they become major catastrophies! Before they
develop into the chronic diseases associated with ageing such as
arthritis, diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol and the list
goes on!
In order to gauge how well the body is
functioning, we use certain principles of Ageing and attempt to
reverse them.
These are known as the Biomarkers of Ageing and
the better these are, the better the body health is. Putting extra
effort into reversing or improving these values will improve your
health and your biological age. This is simply a good reflection of
how well your body is performing.
The Main Biomarkers of
Ageing
Muscle Mass (body cell
mass). From young adulthood to middle age, the average person
loses 3 Kg of lean body mass per decade. The rate of loss
accelerates after the age of 45. This can be improved by physical
activity and guided nutrition and
supplementation.
Strength/Musculo-skeletal
fitness. Skeletal muscles can be regarded as
the engine of the body and the skeleton, the chassis – the more
efficient the engine, the further you go. Gradual muscle loss can
lead to low blood sugar tolerance; declining metabolism; increase
in body fat; decreased aerobic capacity; loss of bone mineral
density. Good muscle strength midlife may protect people from the
disability of old age by providing a greater safety margin above
the threshold of disability.
Basal Metabolic
Rate. This is equivalent to your body’s own
engine. It is the rate at which the body’s metabolism burns
calories while you are at rest. It is proportional to lean body
mass. This rate drops 2% per decade from age 20 onwards.
Body Fat percentage. Body
fat increases with age even if weight does not. Sedentary male or
females at 65 have twice the body fat as when they were
young.

Distribution. Fat around
the waist (apple shape) have higher risk for developing heart
disease, stroke and diabetes than when stored around the hips (pear
shape)
6. Aerobic Capacity. This is the
ability to take in and properly utilise oxygen. This requires
healthy lungs, a strong heart, efficient circulation system and
decreases with age. For a female from 30 years and for a male from
20 years. At 65 years the oxygen utilization decreases by 30- 40%,
typically. Healthy changes in oxygen utilization is due to
adaptations in skeletal muscles.
Blood Sugar Tolerance. This is
the lowered ability to regulate and utilise glucose. Tests are
available to find this out. Dietary changes balanced glucose
regulating hormones. Increased exercise also lowers inulin
resistance and improves the cells ability to utilise sugars.
Impaired glucose tolerance, including diabetes in men in their 50’s
can be reduced by maintaining a high level of physical fitness
while in their 30’s.
Cholesterol/HDL Ratio.
This needs to be 4.5 or lower. Increases with
age, increases the risk to disability and premature death. There is
a need for better dietary management, proper supplementation and
